#EUROTRACK20, PLOVDIV MAKES ITS DEBUT

The countdown has begun to the start of the Elite Track European Championships in Plovdiv (Bulgaria) from 11 to 15 November.

During this continental event’s five days of racing, which is undoubtedly one of the most important meetings on the Union Européenne de Cyclisme’s calendar, 22 titles will be awarded (11 specialities on the programme in two categories).

In terms of participation, in the Women’s the four times Olympic Champion Laura Kenny will be leading the British national team with Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald, who won with her the Olympic gold medal in Rio de Janeiro 2016 in the Team Pursuit. Italy will be in the line up with a strong, competitive team including Letizia Paternoster, Vittoria Guazzini and Maria Giulia Confalonieri, as will Russia with the multiple European Sprint World Champions, Daria Shmeleva and Anastasiia Voinova.

In the Men’s, Great Britain will be one of the teams to watch with the champions Matthew Walls and Oliver Wood. Also in the line up, will be the Spanish experts Albert Torres and Sebastian Mora, as well as the Portuguese Ivo and Rui Oliveira.

Rocco Cattaneo, Union Européenne de Cyclisme President: «The Elite Track European Championships are one of the highlights in our calendar with an event that all the cycling world will be watching with interest, also thanks to the extensive live TV coverage that will be shown all over Europe. For five days, we will be able to watch the best Track specialists from our continent on the track. The location will be unique, in the brand new Plovdiv velodrome, a flagship European sports facility.

These Championships will not only just be about sport, since they will be held in a UNESCO World Heritage city, demonstrating that sport, tourism and culture all work together in harmony.

I would like to thank the Organising Committee lead by the new Bulgarian Cycling Federation and its President Dragomir Kousov and all the management team, the City of Plovdiv and its Mayor Zdravko Dimitorv as well as its Deputy George Titukov, the Sports Minister and the Minister Krasen Kralev, who have supported this major event right from the beginning. I would also like to offer special thanks to the volunteers, in such a difficult world health situation, who have been working for a long time with strength and passion to organise the best possible event, that without doubt will be an enormous success.»
