The Union Européenne de Cyclisme has awarded the organisation of the 2026 Elite Track European Championships to the Turkish city of Konya, which will take place from 1st to 5th February 2026, in a brand new, modern and avant-garde velodrome that will be the centre stage of five days of superb racing attended by the best European Track specialists.
Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: “The Elite Track European Championships are one of the key events on our calendar, and will be particularly important in 2026, as they will take place almost two years before the Los Angeles Olympic Games. They will be a key moment in the preparations for the Olympic Games.
Türkiye has been a constant and active presence over the years, both in terms of participation in competitions in all disciplines, and in the organisation of high-level international events, from the World Championships to the European Championships in various disciplines.
Konya will have the honour of hosting this event in the new velodrome, a modern, cutting-edge facility that will provide the athletes with ideal conditions in which to express themselves to the best of their ability and guarantee a great spectacle for the public and the media. The visibility of the event will also be amplified thanks to the well-established collaboration between the UEC and Eurovision, which will ensure that the images are broadcast throughout Europe and further afield.
I would like to warmly thank the Turkish Cycling Federation, its President Emin Müftüoğlu, for his constant passion, competence and availability, the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sport, with the Minister Dr. Osman Aşkın BAK, for their valuable institutional backing; the Metropolitan Municipality of Konya, with Mayor Uğur İbrahim ALTAY, and the Governor of Konya, İbrahim AKIN, for their enthusiasm and commitment in organising this great event. I'm sure that together we will write a new page in the history of European cycling”.
Dr. Osman Aşkın BAK, Minister of Youth and Sports: “Cycling is a universal value that represents sustainable living, environmental awareness, and a healthy society. We are very pleased to host this important event at Türkiye’s first modern indoor velodrome. We believe that this important international event will strengthen friendship among countries and reinforce a culture of sports in younger generations.”
Emin Müftüoğlu, President of the Turkish Cycling Federation: "The fact that the 2026 UEC Elite Track European Cycling Championships will be held in Konya represents the progress and vision that Turkish cycling has been able to develop.
This important collaboration with the UEC not only means hosting a high-level event, but also testifies to the level reached by our sports infrastructure. This is a historic step that will increase interest in Track cycling and be a source of inspiration for young athletes in our country and throughout the region.
We are deeply honoured and happy to welcome Europe's best Track cyclists to Konya. As for the UCI Track Nations Cup, the Prefecture of Konya, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Municipality of Konya, the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports of Konya, the press, all the institutional partners, the volunteers, our Federation and the whole cycling family will work together to organise this great event in the best possible way.
I would also like to thank the President of the UEC and Vice-President of the UCI, Enrico Della Casa, for his confidence in Türkiye. An event of this magnitude would not be possible without the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to whom I would like to express my most sincere gratitude.”
