The Continental Championships will be held in the superb setting of the Place des Quinconces from 14 to 16 July.
After the two last races that took place last weekend in Sandnes (Norway), the curtain has closed on the 2017 edition of the UEC BMX European Cup. Technically speaking, this was one of the best editions of the last few seasons thanks to various factors that highlighted the elite of the European movement. In the Men’s Elite category, after the tenth round, it was Kyle Evans (Great Britain) who triumphed after competing in all the best races, ahead of the Dutch rider, Joris Harmsen and the Russian, Aleksandr Katyshev. The duel between the Men Juniors was extremely exciting culminating in the victory of the Dutch rider, Kevin van de Groenendaal by only 4 points over the Latvian, Mikus Strazdinis. The Dutch rider, Laura Smulders raced to victory in the Women’s Elite category beating the Russian rider, Yaroslava Bondarenko and the Dane, Simone Christensen, meanwhile Vineta Petersone (Latvia) won in the Women Juniors category.
Team 1 Step to Win BMX Trainingen (Ned) has won the team ranking with 1680 points ahead of the team Thrill Factory Europe (Bel), and the team Supercross BVC Bikes Europe (Bel).
David Lappartient, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «The BMX European Cup has always been a reference event and the success of this edition proves that this discipline continues to attract even more insiders and followers. The thousands of women and men that took part in the ten races on the programme, the information on the live streaming that we gave for each race, the crowds at the event and the great professionalism of the organisers is undoubtedly the key of this event’s success. BMX is a young, dynamic and exciting discipline, which is why the Union Européenne de Cyclisme will continue its efforts and investment so that it can offer even more attractive events for athletes and followers. I would like to thank the organisers in Zolder (Belgium), Erp (Netherlands), Prague (Czech Republic), Verona (Italy) and Sandnes (Norway) for their significant contribution to the success of the European Cup and above all the athletes, National Federations and teams that guaranteed a very high technical level in all of the races».
The great BMX season will continue with the European Championships scheduled in Bordeaux (France) from 14 to 16 July, an event that will have a prestigious setting in which the best athletes will battle it out against each other. The races will be held on a temporary track built in the city centre, at the Place des Quinconces measuring 31 hectares, which is one of largest city squares in Europe.
