From tomorrow Tuesday 18 July until Sunday 23 July, it will be the Sangalhos Velodrome in Anadia (Portugal) that will host the European Track Championships for the Juniors and Under 23 categories (Men and Women). This is one of the main events of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme’s season with 383 athletes registered for this continental event (59 Women Juniors, 113 Men Juniors, 88 Women Under 23s and 123 Men Under 23s) representing 25 countries that will be competing to win the 44 titles on offer.
This will be a top level event, in keeping with the tradition of this great competition designed for the youngest athletes, that for the first time will award the same number of titles in all categories.
David Lappartient, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «We are very pleased to be returning to the Sangalhos Velodrome in Anadia after the positive experiences of 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 for one of our most important events. For six days, cycling fans will be able to watch high level races, but above also to get to know who will be the main contenders on the international scene over the next few years. We must not forget that in the past the European Juniors and Under 23 Championships have been a springboard for many athletes who have then gone on to win Olympic and World Champion titles. For this reason this will be an even that everyone will follow with interest and as always attract huge crowds of passionate Portuguese fans. I would like to thank the City of Sangalhos and the municipality of Anadia for their welcome as well as the Portuguese Cycling Federation and its President, Delmino Pereira and Deputy, José Calado who are ready to organise these Championships with great passion.»
