This year Italy will host the MTB Youth European Championships and the Stayer European Championships.
Yesterday, the Union Européenne de Cyclisme Management Board awarded two Championships that will take place respectively in the Il Ciocco resort in Lucca from 2 to 6 August (following the cancellation by the organising committee of the event planned in Switzerland in Trevano-Porza) and at the Pordenone Velodrome on 18 and 19 July.
Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «The awarding of two Championships to Italy is a step forward in completing the organisation of 2023 UEC events, and thanks to the Italian Cycling Federation and its President and the Off-Road and Track Commissions, they will be held in two symbolic places for both disciplines.
In Italy, off-road is synonymous with the Il Ciocco resort, which has always had links with the MTB world since the start of this movement. The second edition in the history of the Cross-Country and Downhill Championships in 1991 was truly memorable. It is a bikers’ haven thanks to its 600 hectares of natural terrain, over 42 kilometres of routes and paths, cycling forest circuits and five different types of accommodation in the heart of the Apennines between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna.
The Pordenone Velodrome, named after the unforgettable champion Ottavio Bottecchia, the first Italian to win the Tour de France, has an important tradition in Track cycling having organised a round of the UCI World Cup, the Derny and Stayer European Championships, as well as the recent summer Six Days event.
The Union Européenne de Cyclisme wishes to thank the Italian Cycling Federation, the President of the Off-Road Commission, Massimo Ghirotto for his support, Christian Dagnoni who has always been active in the Stayer movement, and the organisers Il Ciocco as well the Friends of the Pordenone Track who, with their solid organisational experience, are a true guarantee for the success of both events».
In the next few days, all the details on the two Championships will be published on the website www.uec.ch.
