UEC MANAGEMENT BOARD, ANADIA (PORTUGAL)

At the MTB, Road and Juniors Track European Championships taking place in Anadia, (Portugal), the Union Européenne de Cyclisme Management Board met to approve important future initiatives and award four European Championships.

A review of the 2022 season was the focus of work with special attention on the calendar full of a variety of events. The great success in terms of the organisation and participation in the Anadia European Championships was also celebrated and the fact that during these Championships, 3,000 tyres MTB, Roadand Track) were given to the participating countries thanks to VITTORIA’s fantastic contribution, a company with whom the UEC has forged a solid working relationship for many years.

During the meeting there was a review of the initiatives that the Union Européenne de Cyclisme has taken for Ukrainian cyclists, in particular allowing them to compete in the Anadia Championships with the UEC covering accomodation costs for over thirty riders.

Four European Championships were also unanimously approved: 2022 Track Stayer (Lyon, France) 9-10 September,2023 Paracycling Road (Rotterdam, Netherlands) 16-20 August, 2024 Road (Limbourg-Flanders, Belgium) 11-15 September and 2024 Cyclo-Cross (Pontevedra, Spain) 2-3 November.

With the aim of protecting the environment, after various studies, proposals and reflections, the Management Board, unanimously approved the introduction of the initiative «UEC Forest». Following the Anadia event, the Union Européenne de Cyclisme will give each venue that hosts a European Championships a tree to guarantee a high level of CO2 absorption.

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme:«We have ended the Management Board in Anadia knowing  that we will continue our activities with optimism both in the present and in the future for the sake of European cycling.

The success of the current European Championships in Portugal once again shows to what extent the European National Federations feel and think about our events. In this respect, I wish to thank all the national teams that took part and wanted to be here in Anadia despite the major logistical hurdles, and I am certain that they will return home with great memories of this event.

The policy of supporting youth activities continues with various initiatives including the donation of tyres to National Federations thanks to the partnership with Vittoria, a company which has embraced and supported our initiative for years, just like we are continuing to support Ukrainian athletes enabling them to regularly compete in the main events on the international calendar.

Regarding future events, we have awarded four European Championships to cities of major importance in their respective disciplines also thanks to the close co-operation that we have with their respective Presidents: Michel Callot (France), Wouter Bos (Netherlands), Tom van Damme (Belgium) and José Luis Lopez Cerron(Spain).

Our concern and care for the environment has resulted in the launch of the initiative «UEC Forest» to make our modest but concrete contribution, to the environment.»
