AWARDING OF UPCOMING UEC EVENTS

AWARDING OF UPCOMING UEC EVENTS

All UEC events for the 2023 season are in the process of being finalised.

The UEC Management Board awarded a series of Championships and decided some new important features for next year.

In 2023, the first edition of the Championnats d’Europe des Grimpeurs will take place on the road in Tremola at the Gothard Pass (Switzerland), a unique event of its kind which will welcome, as well as the Elite, Under 23s, Juniors and Masters to the world of mass events on 30 July 2023.

Among the other new features is the awarding of the 2025 MTB Marathon European Championships to Italy that will be held in Casella, in the City of Genoa in Liguria.

In addition, the 2023 MTB Youth European Championships from 2 to 6 August will take place in Trevano – Porza (Switzerland) 5.4 kilometres from Capriasca, where they were initially planned.

The Union Européenne de Cyclisme is continuing to plant trees as part of its project «UEC Forest». Since last July, the UEC has donated a tree to each venue hosting a European Championships to guarantee a high level of CO2 absorption. The list, constantly updated, can be found on this page: click here. Still on the subject of protecting the environment, the UEC has also signed an agreement to join the initiative UCI Climate Action Charter: click here.

Enrico Della Casa, President of the Union Européenne de Cyclisme: «We are preparing for a 2023 packed full of events, starting with the Elite Track European Championships that will open our season from 8 to 12 February in Grenchen (Switzerland). With the awarding of the Grimpeurs Championships, we have guaranteed nearly all the events for next year, which we will finalise in the next few days, and with the 2025 Marathon we have decided an important point for the future.

All this demonstrates that our National Federations, the UEC and the UCI have a close and strong relationship and above all a mindful vision of the world of cycling and all its disciplines. Our focus is not just on the Elite category but also mass events and young people which are the driving force of our sport. The expansion and development of cycling has always been one of our priorities and thanks to the excellent relations with National Federations and organisers, we are continuing in the direction of a sport which is increasingly accessible to all. I would like to thank all the National Federations involved in this new development including the Italian Cycling Federation and its President Cordiano Dagnoni, Swiss Cycling and its Co-Presidents Franz Gallati and Patrick Hunger, two of the most active and dynamic organisations in terms of cycling at 360 degrees.»
